Where is the furthest away place you’ve been to? Perhaps you’ve visited the ends of the earth, or perhaps the furthest you’ve traveled is the other end of your town. Regardless of whether we’re intrepid explorers or prefer being rooted in one place, we are all part of a nation. The concept of ‘nation’ goes beyond geography; it can be defined as "a large body of people united by common descent, history, culture, or language, inhabiting a particular country or territory". Nations, then, are all about people.

This verse from 1 Chronicles reminds us that wherever we are, whoever we are surrounded by, we are to speak of the glory of God and the works that He has done. These verses are found in the middle of a psalm of praise that King David delivers after the ark of God is restored to the people of Israel. The psalm starts by remembering the faithfulness of God, extolling His goodness and pointing out the ways that He has provided for and protected His people, just as He promised. It is this collective remembrance of the works of God that forms the backbone of this mandate to “Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples.”

What started in one nation, among one people group, now echoes across all nations and all peoples. The same is true for us today. God’s radical salvation plan through Jesus is not just for us; it’s for all nations and all people, and so we are to declare his glory and proclaim these marvelous deeds wherever we go!

Questions: What has God done in your life? How has He provided for you? What story has He written you into? How can you share this story with others who don’t know him?
Prayer: Lord God, thank you that you have always been faithful to me, that you have restored me and redeemed me and rewritten my story. I give you thanks and praise for your goodness. Give me the opportunity to declare your glory to someone who doesn’t know you today.

We are in the grip of a slow awakening in the student world as we continue to hear story after story of students coming to know Jesus. This is a story that hasn’t just begun now, it's been unfolding across generations, prayers of those who have sown in tears that God would move powerfully in this nation and the next generation; we are standing on the answered prayers of those faithful intercessors.
