Fear Is Not My Future | 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting

When Paul was writing to the Church at Philippi, he understood this was a newly established church with “Baby Christians.” His concern for them is that they understood the importance of standing firm in their faith and building a solid foundation. Philippians 4:1 says, “THEREFORE, my brothers, whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, stand firm thus in the Lord, my beloved.” The “therefore” at the beginning of verse one refers to what he had previously said in chapter three. In Philippians 3, he wrote about how saddened he was to hear that there were professing Christians of the faith being taught false theology from outside the church, believing the false theology because they were not deeply rooted in faith and being referred to as “enemies of the cross.”

Jesus concludes the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 7:24-27 with a parable that illustrates the importance of a solid spiritual foundation. The parable compares people who hear and apply Jesus' teaching to a wise man who builds his house on an unshakable foundation. Are you acting as a wise man and building an unshakable foundation in your own life? What principles in our lives do we need to have the ability to stand firm?

Principles to building a firm foundation:

  • Daily spending time in God’s word
  • Prayer
  • Discipleship
  • Church attendance & serving the church
  • Scripture memory
  • Putting on the Armor of God

Take time to pray and ask the Lord to reveal to you which areas you need to improve to strengthen your foundation.

Now, let us take this a step further. Whatever area/areas you know need to be strengthened, write out an action plan for accomplishing growth in those areas
