Week 14. Day 5. 1 Kings 14-16.
From this point on the narrative splits, sometimes following the northern kingdom (Israel), sometimes following the southern kingdom (Judah.) In general, the kings in the north are worse, and many reign for a short time due to assassinations and conspiracies. Also, only in the southern kingdom of Judah are the kings from David’s line.
Look for the repeated phrase ‘x provoked Yahweh God of Israel’ in these and later chapters.
These are some bleak chapters after the glories of ch10, and we wonder if there is no hope. But God can shine light even in the darkest places, and we’ll see that in the ministry of Elijah in ch17!
NOTE: Days 1-5 of each week contain the scripture reading for that week. Day 6 has just the 'key chapters'.
