Get Off My Boat

Sometimes we, as Christians, can divert from the path that God has placed us on. It is a common occurrence, and the Lord knows that we are not perfect. However, it is important to quickly get back to where we need to be going. In Mark 4, Jesus told his people the direction in which they needed to go, and they obeyed him. When the storm came and frightened them, Jesus was awoken and he calmed the seas. His people listened to his word and obeyed him and, although they were afraid, Jesus protected them. Even in the midst of fear and uncertainty, he came through and made a way for them when they felt that there wasn’t one.

Jonah, however, was not like those who were on the boat with Jesus. When the Lord gave Jonah orders to travel to the city of Ninevah and speak out against the people, Jonah was afraid. Rather than adhere to God’s will, Jonah attempted to flee. He wished to hide from God and escape to Tarshish. By his decision to be disobedient to the will of the Lord, this set his later fate of being tossed overboard and swallowed by a fish. Jonah’s trials and tribulations were a direct result from his decision to stray from the path that the Lord had set before him.

We as Christians must take care to recognize what it is that the Lord has placed before us, and what we should do with our positions. Take great care and listen, because God does not intentionally lead us to suffering, but instead leads us from it. By abiding by his word and keeping to the path that he has set for us, we will prosper.

Do you feel as if the path that you are on is God’s will? If not, what do you feel he is calling for you to do?

Get Off My Boat

As a Christian and a child of God, we have already learned that God often places people in our lives for a reason. We also should consider that God will take them out of our lives for a reason as well. In this plan, we will discuss the importance of keeping an open ear to the Lord in these situations, and removing the “stowaways” in your life.
