The First Letter of John

DAY 19 OF 28

Set Our Hearts at Ease Before Him

When speaking of sin, it is almost expected in the culture of our day that we take on this burden of shame for all the ways we fail God. But this means we merely replace slavery to sin with slavery to guilt. In this guilt, our hearts condemn us every time we try to approach God. But this isn’t what He wants for us. He is “greater than our heart". God wants to “set our hearts at ease” before Him. He wants to relate to us in a way that makes us want to spend time with Him. Confidence in our intimacy with God comes out in how we pray and what we ask for when we do pray.

Devotional Question:

Has my confidence taken a beating before God? Am I dwelling on my guilt and shame more than I am dwelling in Christ with freedom?
