God’s Direction

How many times have we moved and expected God to go along with us? How did that work out? God doesn’t follow; He leads. God told Joshua to move and cross over the Jordan to attain the land He had promised Abraham. Joshua didn’t get his direction from a friend, advisor, or relative. He got it directly from God. If we move before God directs us to move, know that we are moving in our own strength. What is ahead of us will be a heavy lift that is impossible to bear on our own. When God is ready for us to cross the Jordan, He will tell us.

When the weather is nice, my son and I often walk to the bus stop to meet my daughter. The bus stop is about a quarter mile away, and there are two intersections along the route. My son will often run ahead of me along our journey, but he knows he must stop and wait for me when he gets to the intersection. He understands that this leg of the journey is a bit more dangerous than the previous leg. He stops and waits for me to direct him across the street.

Joshua also knows that the children of Israel are at a crossroads and that he should wait on the Lord’s direction before he makes a move. I know you have been waiting a long time for that job, that home, that spouse, whatever it is. Maybe you have been waiting 40 years, just like the children of Israel. Maybe you have been in a wilderness season and are ready to move. Take a lesson from the book of Joshua, and do not move until God directs you to move. Moving ahead of God will only keep you in the wilderness longer and increase your chances of falling into the hands of the enemy.

What situation in your life are you waiting on God’s direction?
