Why Our Work Matters

DAY 3 OF 5

Why Our Work Matters – Part III

In this Bible reading plan, we’re discussing some of the reasons God intended us to work. Today’s focus is on Productivity

In the 19th century, it would have seemed impossible that the earth could ever produce enough food to feed seven billion people. Then God provided divine insight to several inventors that ushered in the Industrial Revolution.

Their inventions took productivity to a level that allowed food production to skyrocket, exceeding all human expectations.

When God created man, his first command in Genesis 1 was, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it."

God desires us to be fruitful or productive in all that we do, including our work. Increased productivity better serves our customers and is more fulfilling for us personally as we strive to improve.

Questions for Reflection:

  • Why do you think God’s first command in Genesis 1 had man doing something productive?
  • What’s the opposite of being productive?
  • Can you think of the last time you felt productive in your job? How did that make you feel about working?
