She Works His Way: 7 Gospel Truths for Working Womenనమూనా
John’s disciples were worried that John’s ministry was dwindling, when John knew that his crowd’s shifting to Jesus was proof his ministry had been effective.
John’s words lay out a perfect roadmap for those of us who want to take any part in kingdom work:
"He must increase, but I must decrease." - John 3:30
Here's the temptation for us as working women: Your brain that God built with incredible precision is hardwired in formulas you’ve learned at work.
So naturally, when you think about increase in the kingdom, your business brain immediately jumps to basic growth principles. And on that route, we quickly arrive at conclusions like:
The bigger my audience is, the more I can do for God.
The better title I have at work, the more influence I will have for God.
The more others make of me, the more I can make of Christ.
But career and business strategies don’t change the fundamentals of our faith. And at its core, kingdom work is wrapped up in His agenda and His glory. Not yours. Not mine.
Let me say it as plainly as I can: You don’t have to increase in order for God to increase.
God doesn’t need your business/title/platform/audience to grow to bring Him more glory. He just needs your faith to grow.
Can you be known and still prioritize knowing God? Absolutely.
If your audience grows, can God use that for His glory? Yes!
If you get a promotion at work so you have more influence over more people, can He use you in your new role? Absolutely, God can!
But He’s not limited to those means. God’s increase is in no shape, form, or fashion,
dependent on your increase.
I believe a large portion of stress in kingdom work is rooted in the desire of dual increase:
His mission + my mission.
His agenda + my agenda.
His name + my name.
Imagine what it would be like if you were solely focused on His increase. If you took all of those growth requirements away, what would that mean for you?
No more pressure to be the best.
To sell more than her.
To get more followers.
To have everyone think you’re awesome.
Answer honestly: Would your life look drastically different than it does now?
Here’s the good news: that’s not just some dreamy far-off wishful thinking. That’s exactly how God calls us to live - for His increase alone.
Help me hunger for humility. You must increase, Lord, and I must decrease. Rewire my brain to know I do not need to increase to make You increase. Focus my energy on Your increase alone. Amen.
