Real Hope: Our Lives God's Story

DAY 5 OF 5

Read And Be Read

Reading the Word of God regularly didn’t come easily to me. When I started, I wasn’t an avid reader nor did it make much sense. I didn’t know how to apply what I was reading, and at times I simply just didn’t want to. How things have changed since my introduction! It took me more than a decade of wrestling with the Bible to truly appreciate its beauty. Now it’s my life blood. I carve out time amidst the juggle of life, work and a family of three young boys.

I encourage you to continue diving deeper into the Word. As you read, you may find a verse that leaps off the page and impacts you. Over the years I’ve learnt that this is the living Word of God, resonating with the spirit of God within me. As you read the Bible, the Bible will start reading you.

We are meant to emulate the Word, model our lives according to its principles and be living examples to the people around us. It was a couple of years ago when I found myself unemployed, running out of cash and with a family to provide for. It had been two months since I’d decided to step out of the organisation where I’d worked for almost a decade. It was the right thing to do at the time but now what? I distinctly recall the day I had set aside to update my resume and start applying for jobs. That day I read Proverbs 3:5–6 about trusting in the Lord. I felt the Holy Spirit nudge me and say, ‘Don’t apply for any work. The right job will come to you and it will be for my glory.’ I listened, I obeyed, I did my best to put aside my fear and wait. Sure enough, a couple of months later a successful job opportunity presented itself. I now retell the story as a testament to God’s Living Word, His goodness and His faithfulness.

May others read your life, and see a tapestry of God’s love, beauty, mercy and grace extended towards His children.

Day 4

About this Plan

Real Hope: Our Lives God's Story

Our lives are the books the world will read. But all in all our prayer is that our lives are inevitably seen as a living letter from the King of Kings to His beloved people. A letter wrapped in the story of our lives that is evidence of a God who is working in every situation and circumstance. This life we live isn’t ours – it’s His.
