Infinitum 30 Day Challenge - Week Twoనమూనా
Challenge What Enslaves Us
What does it mean to challenge what enslaves us? This could look different for each person. You might be enslaved by fear, pride, greed, anger, the list goes on. Take this time to reflect on what has a hold of you. Fear and anxiety are two things that enslave many of us, these things hold us back from surrendering all to God. Fear and anxiety are rooted in the future. When we start rooting our lives in the future, on the ‘what ifs,’ ‘what could’ and ‘what then’ it robs us of the ability to surrender in the present moment. In 1 John 4:18, we read that “there is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear” (NIV). We need to overcome this fear, we cannot let it enslave us.
Paul writes in a letter to the Romans that we need to consider ourselves “dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus” (Romans 6:11). Paul is telling the readers that they do not need to be enslaved by sin because God has set us free. Our freedom is found in Christ, we can stand firm on this truth and we can refuse to submit to the slavery that sin entails. An important step in learning to challenge what enslaves you is by knowing where your identity is founded. Galatians 5:1 reminds us of the freedom found in Christ, if we stand firm on the identity found in Christ we will not let ourselves be burdened by the yoke of slavery.
- What enslaves you?
- What does this say about you?
- How do worry and anxiety play a part in your life (Luke 12:22)?
- What do you need to do about it?
Repeat this today: I choose to surrender my attempts at control, which I often hold so tightly.
