How Should We Pray?

No doubt about it, 2020 will go down in the history books. Not only was it a year of the global COVID-19 pandemic, but it will be remembered in the United States for racial riots, the electrified election of the President of the United States and other life changing disruptions, many of which were fueled by the media and propagated through social media.

Where do we begin to pray and what do we pray for?

This was the question on the mind of Solomon as he inherited the throne of his great father, King David. What could he possibly ask God for that could build on the legacy of “the man after God’s own heart”? (Acts 13:22) Solomon asked for wisdom. Not earthly wisdom but God’s wisdom to lead.

Today Christians are not known for wisdom. We are called dishonest, homophobic and rigid, and known for being the “call-out culture” and against everything the world says is right and good.

Christ followers need to pray for wisdom.

It is not worldly wisdom we need. It is the wisdom from our all-knowing God that we need. We need to pray for God’s mind in all things during all times and then ask for the courage to carry out His wise will in the earth.

Earthly knowledge will never be enough. Only heavenly knowledge will be able to cut through our present-day dilemmas so that positive changes can be achieved. It is the kind of wisdom that goes beyond a human mind and can only be revealed through the discerning eyes of a heart seeking after God.

For when our eyes are fully on God, our hearts take the lead and our prayers are miraculously answered as God’s will is done and not ours. We begin to see creatively and differently. With God’s wisdom innovative solutions can be implemented that will truly make a difference in our culture.

God’s wisdom working in our lives builds a legacy of love, trust, peace and goodness now and for future generations and into eternity. It worked for Solomon and it will work for us today.

Pray daily for God’s wisdom to be brought forth and accomplished in you.
