Reward #3: Power To Overcome

“God does not give us overcoming life; He gives us life as we overcome" - Oswald Chambers, My Utmost for His Highest

Your "YES" to God will absolutely bring you joy, peace, and Kingdom advancement. However, there will also be times when you will be challenged to overcome obstacles, opposition, fear, doubt, and unbelief. It is in those times that our God will unreservedly give you the power to overcome.

I love the Passion Translation of 1 Corinthians 10:13:

“We all experience times of testing, which is normal for every human being. But God will be faithful to you. He will screen and filter the severity, nature, and timing of every test or trial you face so that you can bear it. And each test is an opportunity to trust him more, for along with every trial God has provided for you a way of escape that will bring you out of it victoriously.”

No matter what you face, God will give you power to overcome.

His overcoming, victorious power looks like:

  • Faith and trust in His promises to you personally, knowing that He will do what He said He would do;
  • Absolute trust in His Word; and
  • Undeniable trust in His faithfulness—for He will never let you down!

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were great examples of power to overcome.

They had a stalwart resolve to trust God. Just look again at what happened to them when they refused to worship the idol their king commanded them to worship:

"Then Nebuchadnezzar flew into a rage and ordered that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego be brought before him. When they were brought in, Nebuchadnezzar said to them, “Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, that you refuse to serve my gods or to worship the gold statue I have set up? I will give you one more chance to bow down and worship the statue I have made when you hear the sound of the musical instruments.

But if you refuse, you will be thrown immediately into the blazing furnace. And then what god will be able to rescue you from my power?”

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego replied, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve is able to save us. He will rescue us from your power, Your Majesty. But even if he doesn’t, we want to make it clear to you, Your Majesty, that we will never serve your gods or worship the gold statue you have set up". (Daniel 3:13-18 NLT)

In response to these young men's confession of faith in God, King Nebuchadnezzar became furious—so much so that his face became distorted with rage. He then demanded the furnace be heated seven times hotter than usual. When it was hot enough, some of the strongest men of his kingdom took the three Hebrew boys and threw them into the furnace.

The Bible says that the furnace was so hot that it killed all the men who threw Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in. However, it didn't harm the three Hebrew boys at all!

King Nebuchadnezzar was shocked. Not only were Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego absolutely fine, even inside the furnace, but when the king looked, he saw a fourth Man standing with them in the fire. When he finally had them come out of the flames, not even the hair on their head were singed and their clothes didn't smell like smoke.

God gave Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego the power to overcome—and He's giving YOU that same power right now.

God is giving you power to overcome right now. Right in the face of your enemies, you will see the miracle-working power of God in your life. And, just as King Nebuchadnezzar had to do, even your enemies are going to have to give God all the glory!

My friend, saying "yes" to God will give you the power to overcome any obstacle the enemy may throw at you. Right in the midst of the fire, God is going to show up for you! HALLELUJAH!

Stop right now and thank the Lord for His power to overcome! Then, I'll see you back tomorrow to talk about the fourth reward of your "YES!"
