Where We Need To Be
If you are familiar with the story of Simeon, you know he was a righteous and devout man who had been praying to see the "consolation of Israel" for many years. The Holy Spirit revealed that he would not taste death before he had seen the Lord Jesus Christ. At first, you'd think that would be such a gift to be told that you would see Christ before you died. For the most part, you'd be right, but I think most of us would quickly turn toward impatience to see Jesus.
Think back to when you were a child and were waiting on Christmas to come because you knew you were receiving some gift that you wanted. You probably had a countdown on the calendar to the magical day when you would finally receive those gifts. The days, hours, and minutes grew slower with each passing thought of what was to come.
That is how I probably would have experienced what Simeon went through as he waited to see Jesus. I don't know what age the Holy Spirit revealed this message to Simeon, but it seems like Simeon had been praying for many years for the day he met Christ Jesus.
What I love about the story of Simeon is that he wasn't sitting at home, saying, "If you see Jesus, text me." He was in the temple praying and anticipating meeting Jesus every time he was there. After years and years of waiting and praying, he was still actively looking for the Christ Jesus.
Do we approach that precious second coming of our Lord Jesus the same way? Are we sitting at home on the couch, sleeping late on Sunday mornings, or mailing in our prayers waiting to see Jesus?
Just at Simeon, we are called to be active in our faith and be where we need to be when Jesus arrives.
Uncommen Questions:
Are you waiting for Jesus to show up before you get off the couch?
Are you actively waiting and praying for a divine meeting with the Savior of the world?
Uncommen Challenge:
I challenge you to listen to the Holy Spirit and actively seek your appointed time with seeing Jesus. Just think how Simeon would have felt if he would have missed the chance to meet Jesus.
