Becoming A Yes Sister By Angelia Whiteనమూనా
Day 5
See the Opportunities
The Bible offers examples of women who influenced those around them. Elizabeth led the way for Mary when they were both pregnant. Lydia was a businesswoman who managed her family and helped others.
Who taught you what it means to be a woman? What characteristics does she embody? How do her lifestyle and her choices match up with what she claims? One simple way to move forward as a Yes Sister is to recall your early influencers and communicate the impact they’ve made on your life. Let each of those women know that her investment in you continues to multiply. Ask her what prompted her to reach out to you. What moved her heart to work on your behalf? Beyond compassion or empathy, what nudged her into action as a Yes Sister for you? What did she gain in return?
Even if your list of Yes Sisters is short, your story still gives you a certain amount of wisdom, which is needed to give close-up and wide-lens attention to what’s going on in the lives of those around us.
Unless we’re proactive about it, we’re bound to overlook opportunities to make a difference for someone. The homes in our neighborhoods have closed doors and windows covered with blinds that hide what’s going on behind them. Those barriers keep from our view the heartache, disillusionment, and desperation, and make it possible to live withdrawn, isolated, unseen, and unknown lives. Let’s help spare each other that emptiness.
How easy is it to spend an entire day wrapped up in our own thoughts and to-dos of the present moment? When we are blinded by our own concerns, we become limited to a narrow awareness of the world. But God never loses sight of His grand plan of redemption that impacts the whole of humanity. At the same time, He’s always close-up and present for each of us. We mature as Yes Sisters when we encourage one another to look deep, look up, and keep our focus trained around us so we don’t miss opportunities to spread hope near and far.
Which day-to-day concerns or urgent matters distract you from seeing opportunities to connect with other women? How might connections with Yes Sisters transform these pressures or lift the burden of them?
