[New Life New Way] Made To Workనమూనా
Honest Work
From the very beginning of the Bible we encounter the topic of work. God worked in order to create the earth, the universe, and everything in them. We can say with certainty that God was the first Worker to ever work. And since we were made in His image, we are meant to work as well. Honest work is a blessing from God, not a curse. We will come back to this in the next few days of this plan.
To work is to perform an activity involving mental or physical effort in order to achieve a purpose or result. According to the Bible, the purpose of our work is to enjoy life and to provide for us and for those in need. To think of making an effort in order to achieve something might sound less appealing as the years pass by. Nowadays our society is leaning towards less effort, less work, and more leisure time. We give more value to having free time than having a job.
Honest and exhausting work is good for us! To labor is to work to the point of weariness, of exhaustion. This does not mean that we should be slaves to our jobs and overwork. It means that we should work so that by the end of the day we may feel accomplished, and feel tired enough to be able to have a good night’s sleep. For wise people, hard work is always in vogue. When we, as believers in Christ, are hardworking people, it restores our society in a magnificent way.
Restoring our work ethic restores the world’s ethics. The problem with ethics in the world today is that we have been rewarded for not working hard. If we have a job that pays us to work 40 hours a week, we need to be working 40 hours a week, otherwise, we are stealing from our employer. If we spend 15 of those 40 hours not working, but on our computers playing games, or on our phone on social networks, we are stealing those hours. That is not honest work.
Someone who is always cutting corners at work and looking out for themselves is not an honest worker. We need to be honest and work hard if we want to be witnesses to Jesus at our place of work. That is how we shine with Jesus.
Thought of the Day: Let us always be honest workers, working hard and being witnesses for Jesus, knowing that everything we do is ultimately for God.
