Dream Roadblocks

Our heart is usually our biggest roadblock to living our dream. Living your dream and having a successful life is what God wants for all of us. I define success as doing better than I was before, in my heart, my mind, and my world around me. Notice I didn’t say if I was richer, more famous, or any of the exterior trappings of success. We can go through the worst seasons of our lives successfully because if our hearts are healthy, then our souls will be healthy as well! The interesting thing is that when our hearts are doing well everything else on our outside will eventually begin doing well too. It’s a matter of perspective. Keeping our joy level high. Keeping our words positive. Keeping our motives pure. These are what help you stay on the roadmap for success and get through your roadblocks to success. True success is when God elevates you. When our hearts are right, then God will do the elevating because when our time comes, He knows we will be ready.

There are many dream roadblocks, but the major one in Joseph’s story was betrayal. He was betrayed by his brothers and by Potiphar’s wife. There could be people that come into your life for the sole purpose of betraying you and they don’t even know it. Most of the time the betrayer doesn’t even think they’ve done anything wrong. Every person who’s done something great for God has had a betrayer. Jesus had Judas and the servant isn’t above His Master. At some point we will be betrayed by someone we trust and how we hurdle that roadblock will determine how we live our God-given dream. It’s all connected.

How do you get past betrayal? The first step is to stop waiting on an apology, because it may never happen! It’s very rare that someone has the humility to apologize for an act of betrayal. The next step is to pray for them. Jesus said that we are to bless those who curse us. Trust me. It is hard to actually pray blessing over someone you’d much rather see get what they deserve, but this is what our Savior did. Thank God we didn’t get what we deserved. As we do this we start to find forgiveness blooming in our hearts. This may be a daily thing we must practice for years in order to see a great harvest of forgiveness, but it is worth it. How do you know if you’ve forgiven someone? The answer to that lies in the first thought that pops in your head when you hear their name or see their picture. This is a good indicator on how far we’ve come in the process of forgiveness.

Our hearts will always be the key to our lives and our God-given dream. This is why we are instructed to guard it. Our life will flow from our hearts.
