How To Survive THRIVE - Physically
Day 7: Your days are numbered, how will you spend them?
I have breathed air on this planet for 23,579 days. What’s sobering about that is that there is not one of those days that was guaranteed. My father passed away at 72 years old. If I follow in his shoes, I have 8 years left! But my mom is still going strong at 92, which gives me another 28 years! The truth is that we don’t have a clue how much time we have left. So here is the question…
What will you do with today?
Today is a gift from God. Today is like no other you have had in all your previous days, it’s like no other that you ever will have. Today is unique.
I love the passage in Acts that speaks of King David. He fulfilled his purpose on this earth and then he died. I think I would like that engraved on my tombstone. At least that is what I hope is true when I come to the end of my days. But the truth is that the only way that this will become true is if I understand that today is a gift from God and what will I do with it.
We are created to live in a physical world that is divided into 24 hour segments. 24 hours or today, is the rhythm of creation. We can try and break that cycle, and we all have from time to time. All nighters studying for exams or all nighters up with a sick child are things we have all experienced. But we also know how our bodies reject breaking the “today” rule.
So what will you do with today?
My encouragement is to be intentional with today - whatever that looks like for you. If you are a parent, be intentional about the quality of time that you spend with your kids. Be intentional with the relationships in your life. Be a great spouse or partner today. Be a diligent employee. Be a great friend to someone you love.
Today is a gift from God and tomorrow is not guaranteed. So get everything you can, and give everything you can out of today.
