Choose the Good Part

You will hear questions like, “How do you strike a balance of ministry, work, and business as a pastor’s wife?” The answer from Matthew 6:33 is, “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness." First Chronicles 16:11 adds that we should be continually seeking Him. This is an encouragement to pray. You can't do all this on your own. You need God. We all need God. How can you do this?

If God has blessed you with a job, business, church, or any position of responsibility, you must be careful not to substitute them for Him, because only through Him will you get the wisdom to carry you through that position for His kingdom. The story of Martha and Mary in Luke 10:38–42 teaches how to get your priorities right. “Mary chose the right thing." Jesus is saying that when you choose to listen to His Word above the crowded details of each day (job, business, home, etc.), you have chosen the good part which shall not be taken away (Mathew 24:35).

If you are a stay-home pastor’s wife, your ministry is to your home. You are not less than one who owns a business or is employed. You are placed in the right place by God. Whatever you do, do your work heartily as for the Lord rather than for man. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve (Colossians 3:23–25).

To the Pastor’s wife: “And you shall do what is right and good in the sight of the Lord, that it may go well with you and that you may go in and possess the good land which the Lord swore to give to your fathers” (Deuteronomy 6:18).

The Beloved Pastor's Wife

A Pastor’s wife is called to support and encourage her husband, prioritizing her relationships with God, family, and others to keep the family healthy; being careful not to allow the busyness of daily culture to confuse her in the role God has entrusted her with. Expectations and needs of family and church may pull her in different directions, but one thing is always consistent, God’s love for her endures forever.
