Chosen to Be a Miracle! Advent Plan Based on “The Chosen"மாதிரி
Day 2: Take refuge in Me
My life was touched the day the Romans asked me to go to the red-light district of Capernaum, to the lowliest, most appalling place in the city. They asked me to go help a woman named Lili who was oppressed by darkness; I think you've already had the opportunity to meet her.
When I got there, I did everything I knew to try to help her, but it was all in vain. I was convinced that the darkness residing in her was so great that only God could've intervened. But one question kept going around and around in my heart and mind: How could I, the teacher of teachers, have no authority against the darkness? Was there something I was missing?
What happened a few days later I would never have believed if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes: Lili had been set free. She looked like a totally different person, full of peace, and she even had a new name: Mary of Magdala.
Jesus of Nazareth was the One who had done this miracle. Who else but Him would have answers to my questions? When I saw Him teaching and healing a paralytic before a crowd, there was no doubt in my mind: I had to talk to Him.
He agreed to meet me in a secret place so that we could talk freely. The more questions I asked, the more I realized that His Kingdom was not what we as Jews were expecting: He had not come to liberate us from Roman oppression—He had come to free us from sin and darkness! I could feel life flowing through His every word.
My heart told me that He was the One I had waited for all my life: the promised Messiah. In my excitement, the psalm came to mind that says, "'Kiss the Son, lest He be angry with you and you perish in the way..."' (Psalm 2:12, NKJV). I knelt down and kissed Jesus' hand. He then lifted me up and finished the passage, saying, "'Blessed are all who take refuge in Him"' (adapted from Psalm 2:12, NKJV) as He took me in His arms.
His embrace was like waves of the purest and truest love I had ever felt. It was at that moment that I knew: My life would never be the same again. I had been born again, and I had a destiny.
My name is Nicodemus, and I have been chosen by Jesus.
P.S. Dear friend, Jesus is the answer to your questions, your refuge in adversity. Throughout these upcoming days and as you prepare for Christmas, come into His arms through prayer, and let your life be filled with His love and presence. He is your refuge, the One who gives meaning to your life, the reason for Christmas.
