Day 6: Who can help me think through all this? 

“Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed.” —Proverbs 15:22

As you consider the prospect of full-time ministry, you’ve been praying about it, making sure your motives are right, counting the cost, and so forth. Here’s another biblically rooted move you can make: phone a friend! There are so many Proverbs on this topic that it’s hard to pick just a few (see, for example, Proverbs 11:14; 12:15; 15:22; 19:20-21; 24:6). 

As you consider the people in your world, the people who know God and know you the best, consider close family members. If you’re a young person, for instance, consider bringing your parents into the conversation. In Proverbs 3:1-35, we find the wisdom a father passes on to his son. Solomon penned Proverbs, and he also gave several reasons why “two are better than one” in Ecclesiastes 4:9-12. In light of this, consider confiding in your pastor, parents or a brother or sister, a close friend—again, someone who knows God and knows you well! 

Today’s Prayer:

Father, I am relying on You for clear direction as to how to proceed here. As I stay in close conversation with You, I’m mindful of the many verses in the Bible that tell me to seek counsel from those around me. Who else might I ask for advice? Who has a close walk with You and also knows me well? Who will give me godly counsel and uphold me in prayer? Lead me to him, her or them!
