What the Bible Has to Say About ClothingMfano
Dressed by God
“After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes…” (Revelation 7:9)
John offers us a glimpse into heaven by describing what he sees there in a vision. He sees the Lord God and the Lamb, a name for Jesus Christ. In addition, he sees a large group of people from all nations. They are dressed in white. Their clothing is so pure white because it has been washed in the blood of the Lamb. That sounds very strange, don't you think? This expression is full of imagery.
The Lamb is Jesus. His blood refers to His substitutionary death. Jesus was willing to bear the death penalty we had earned because of our sins. So, when we accept that offer in faith, we are freed from our guilt. We are “washed clean” by Jesus' blood.
The white clothes John sees are a symbol of purity and of victory — God's victory over evil in which believers share. Jesus Himself also wears shining white clothing when He appears in His glory.
So, the future is not a return to the original situation where Adam and Eve were naked. On the new earth, people will wear clothes. No woven fig leaves. No animal skins. But royal, pure white clothing, offered to them by God Himself!
What does the image of purity and holiness evoke in you? Does it evoke a longing?

You will not find clothing style advice in the Bible. Nor will you find the latest fashions. Yet God's Word has a lot to say about clothing: why we wear clothes at all, how we should dress, and how God offers us beautiful, spotless clothing to cover our sins. Will you read with us?
