RAIN

Devotional Content:

In today’s reading, Elijah makes a very bold prediction: There will be no rain or dew for the next few years until he says so. That is power! Actually though, it’s not Elijah’s power, but God’s. God’s power working through Elijah. Elijah and God had an amazing relationship. God asks Elijah to go to King Ahab with this proclamation and Elijah goes. No questioning God. No, “Can you send someone else?” Elijah just went.

What if God asked you to go to the president or head of your country and tell him a similar message? “Go tell your leader that it will not rain for a long time because God says so.” It’s so interesting to me that next few verses tell how God provided for Elijah after he made the prediction. He sent Elijah to a brook to drink water and sent ravens to bring him food. Then God sent Elijah to a widow who fed him.

What is God asking you to do? Are you doing it or are you running away? God may not send you to give a message to your leader but He may ask you to make changes in your life. Is there something God is asking you to do that will make your marriage better? Are you struggling with an addiction that God wants to lead you out of? Whatever it is, I promise you this: If the God of all creation is asking you to do something and you turn to Him and not away from Him, He will show up. He will act.

The drought lasted a long time. Finally, Elijah climbed to the top of Mount Carmel, bowed low to the ground, and prayed. The sky soon filled with black clouds, then a big rainstorm. Sometimes when we pray we are in a drought. Sometimes we finally turn to God after we have tried everything else first. Sometimes I think God won’t give me the answer that I want.

This is what I have learned. When I am in a drought and seek God and His will for me, it rains. Every time it rains. It may come from the east when I thought it would come from the west but it rains and it is the perfect rain for me at that time in my life. Are you in a drought? Pray for rain and then go get your umbrella because it is going to rain!

Today’s Challenge:

What is God asking you to do that you have yet to do?

Going Deeper:

Surrender to God. Go all in. Lay everything before Him. Then look for your rain.

A Man Just Like Me

In this three-part plan, Dr. Kim uses examples from the life of the prophet Elijah to describe how God worked through him to accomplish His purposes. Yet, in reality this amazing prophet Elijah was a man just like you. God had a plan for Elijah and He has a plan for you. This plan will help you connect with God in ways that you probably never have before.
