What Jesus Said About ForgivenessSmakprov
Forgiveness and confession of sin
Here are a few practical guidelines on forgiveness and confession of sin:
1. What must I do when I offend someone? You need to go and ask forgiveness. Do not try to explain, try to find excuses, or downplay the situation or incident as insignificant.
2. What must you do if it was not your fault and you are falsely accused? It would be best if you asked for an opportunity to talk to them to explain the situation. You can also say that you are sorry that there is a misunderstanding. Do it with a humble heart void of arrogance and “self”.
3. We often do something with good intentions, but someone may feel offended by what you did or how you did it. Say that you are sorry that what you did offended or caused some pain to the person. Ask for an opportunity to explain why you did it the way you did it. By doing this, you do not say that you are guilty (intentionally doing something wrong), but you say that you are sorry that this incident caused harm or pain to the person and that you are sorry for how you did it (for instance), caused pain.
4. What can be done when someone doesn’t want to forgive you? It is the other person’s choice to forgive or not. You can do nothing about it. You are responsible for unconditionally acknowledging your fault(s) and honestly asking for forgiveness.
5. We often feel the other person is also at fault. Confess your part. Do not tell the other person they are also at fault. Do not say that you will say sorry if they also say sorry. Do what God expects from you. Confess your part and leave it at that. What they do with what they have done is between them and the Lord.
6. A person doesn’t need to say sorry before you forgive them.
Obedience: If there is any unforgiveness in your heart, go and rectify this as soon as possible.

Forgiveness is at the core of the gospel. Jesus came to die for our sins - so that we can be forgiven. God the Father expects the same from us: To forgive others. But it is not always easy for us to do it.
