“Obey” is not a word many people like. It sounds harsh and authoritarian. It rarely conjures ideas of friendship or love. But Jesus and John know obedience flows from love. We do what someone wants because we love them. It’s the same with God. In fact, John says we know we’ve come to know God if we keep God’s commands (1 John 2:3).
