Money and Wealth

DAG 15 AV 17

Be content with what you have. In the book of Ecclesiastes, we read some wise reflections on life. In chapter 4, it says: ‘I saw vanity under the sun: a person who has no one, either son or brother, yet there is no end to all his toil, and his eyes are never satisfied with riches, so that he never asks, “For whom am I toiling and depriving myself of pleasure?”’ The book of Ecclesiastes was written thousands of years ago, but I think there are still many people with this life style. It seems normal to strive for more, ever more. The apostle Paul, on the other hand, has followed the exhortation in Hebrews 13:5. He writes that he has learned to be content in any and all circumstances, including situations of hunger and need. That’s not an achievement of his own, but he can bear all this because God strengthens him. Paul has “learned” this, he says. Are you ready to learn this same lesson, knowing that God will never forsake you?
