Flourish in Your Present

DAG 4 AV 6

Do the Work

My husband has been a fan of Charlie Peacock for decades. The man is talented beyond what is fair and reasonable, in the arts. He writes thoughtful Christian lyrics and incredible music of various genres. In addition, he is a successful producer, and he owns an Etsy store, selling his original artwork.

For our anniversary, I purchased one of these paintings for my man. But the more incredible gift was the communication with the one and only, Charlie Peacock. I was shocked he would take the time to listen to me, yet he was delightfully responsive. How much more so would God be in response to Habakkuk’s watching and waiting.

Scripture tells us that God, indeed, heard Habakkuk’s prayer. He sees him in his present conundrum and sets him to work. Just like today, calamity or no calamity, the work goes on. Sometimes in the presence of difficulty, there is MORE work.

What does this mean for you and me? The watchtower is essential to hearing the Lord. But like Habakkuk, we should listen as one who anticipates taking action. God doesn’t give wisdom, understanding, and intimacy for our enjoyment only. He gives so that your experience in God and my experience, will impact others.

God’s message to Habakkuk for flourishing in his presence was to do the work. There was work assigned to him that only he can do within his sphere of influence.

Now more than ever, your geographic position, too, is of such importance. Your relationships with people are of the utmost urgency.

What if you don’t know what to do?

If it hastens….wait for it.

Your God is faithful even in the middle of disasters. He still speaks and directs.

What is God asking you to do in your present?

Consider the possibility He means for you to be about the work now, not when the dust settles. Maybe this season has brought discouragement or a sense of confusion as to whether or not you heard Him correctly. Go first to your watchtower and hear what He would say to you. And if he says to you, “Do the work,” the work is yours to do. Your God has not changed His mind just because the world has gone Coo Coo!

Flourish in Your Present

You’ve got crazy circumstances? Maybe a few difficult people hanging around? More bills than cash flowing in each month? Are you facing an unprecedented crisis? How does one move beyond waiting it out on the couch in their yoga pants until the difficulty passes? Take your cues from the prophet, Habakkuk, who demonstrates, not only how to survive the present mix of trouble, suffering, and responsibility, but how to flourish.
