DAG 21 AV 31

We are “the Lord’s Warriors”

Mark Jones

Ready:

I planted the seed in your hearts, and Apollos watered it, but it was God who made it grow.”

– 1 Corinthians 3:6

Set:

Not everyone can be the star. This was the case in my high school career.  I loved basketball, but I was on the bench way more than the floor.  But, I had a vital job: rebound, defend, and step up my scoring if needed.  Also, my job was to work hard in practice, and give the stars a good workout.  No complaints, and no excuses.  I just had to work my hardest. That was my job.

If the body of Christ is to be truly effective, we need to play our God-given roles.  In 1 Corinthians 3, Paul talks about his role within the body of Christ.  He said that him planting seeds isn’t the most important thing.  He said Apollos watering them was not the most important thing. It was God bringing the growth that mattered most.  In sports lingo, Paul and Apollos played their roles as God designed them, and God was glorified, which is the victory.

FCA’s Competitors Creed states, “I am the Lord’s warrior…”.  The warrior does not make the decisions for battle.  He is to obey the decisions of the commander of the army.  You may not be the QB, the “go-to guy” when the game is tight, or the slugger who could win the game with one swing.  Whatever your role, especially as a believer, it is a vital one.  If we do what we are called to do, God will be glorified, which is the victory.

Go

1. What was your role on some of the teams you have been on?

2. What is your role in the body of Christ?  Become a pastor or missionary, witness to a teammate, etc.?

Workout:

1 Corinthians 3

Overtime:

Matthew 7:21-23

“Father, Jesus’ role was to save me from my sin. I know you have a job for me. Please show it to me, and help me to fulfill it with all that I am.  ”
