Daily Bible Reading — Sustained By God’s Word Of FaithSmakprov
May 25
Introduction
Today’s reading concludes the story of Samson. Throughout his story, there were references to the LORD’s power making him strong (13:25; 14:6, 19; 15:14). While he was strong physically, he seemed to be weak in other ways. His encounter with Delilah surfaces his weakness and leads to his betrayal in that Delilah is able to trick Samson into revealing the source of his strength. The chapter ends with the death of Samson along with the death of many Philistines and the destruction of their temple.
Today’s Scripture: Judges 16:28a
Samson prayed, “Sovereign LORD, please remember me; please, God, give me my strength just this one time more.”
Today’s Reading
Judges 16:1-31
Reflect
What was the source of Samson’s strength? What happened to him when he was captured?
Reread verse 28. What are your thoughts concerning Samson’s motive for wanting to destroy the Philistines? Samson had been Israel’s leader for twenty years. Overall, how would you characterize Samson’s leadership?
Pray
Gracious God, remove any thoughts of revenge that may be in my heart this day. Help me to proclaim your love, mercy, and salvation to everyone I meet today. Amen.
Prayer Concern
Those who have lost their sight
Tomorrow’s Reading
