4
chapter four
1then is Yehoshua led become from the Spirit in the wilderness into, so that the Satan may him tempt. 2and fasting forty days and forty nights, is he afterwards hungry become. 3and the tempter is come and has to him said: if you (SG) are the Son of the Most High, tell, that the these stones shall become bread! 4he but has answered said: it stands written:
not from bread alone will the man live,
but from every word,
which comes out of Hashem's mouth.
(Deuteronomy 8, 3)
5then takes him the Satan into the holy city into; and has him stood on the pinnacle of house the holy, 6and said to him: if you (SG) are the Son of the Most High, throw yourself down; because it stands written:
his angels will he command concerning you (SG),
and on the hands will they you carry,
lest will you (SG) dash your foot on a stone.
(Psalms 91, 11)
7has Yehoshua to him said: it stands also written: you (SG) you shall not tempt the L-rd, your G-d. 8again takes him the Satan with up a very high mountain, and shows him all kingdoms of the world, and their splendor; 9and says to him: all the these will I you (SG) give, if you (SG) you will fall down and yourself worship to me. 10then says Yehoshua to him: go away, you (SG) Satan! for it stands written: to the L-rd, your G-d, shall you (SG) yourself worship and only him alone shall you (SG) serve! 11then left him the Satan; and look, angels did come and have him served.
12and when he has heard, that John is arrested become, is he went away to Galilee; 13and has left Natsaret, and is come and has lived in K'far-Nachum, which lies by the sea, in the territory of Zebulun and Naftali; 14so that it may fulfilled to be, which it is said become through Yeshayah the prophet, in this way to say:
15land of Zebulun and land of Naftali,
by the way from the sea, of the other side of Yarden,
Galilee of the peoples,
16the people, who was sat in the darkness,
have seen a great light,
and to those, who are sat in a land and in shadow of death,
for them has a light dawned.
(Yeshayah 9, 1-2)
17from then onwards has Yehoshua begun to proclaim, and to say: do repentance; because the kingdom of the heavens has itself come near!
18and as he is walking about beside the sea of Galilee, has he seen two brothers, Simon, whom they call him Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net in sea into; because they are was fishermen. 19and he said to them: come, follow me after, and I will you (PL) make for fishers of people! 20and they have immediately left the nets, and have him followed. 21and when he is from there went further, has he seen other two brothers, Jacob son of Zavdai, and John his brother, in the boat with their father Zavdai, mending their nets; and he has them called. 22and they have immediately left the boat and the father their, and have him followed.
23and he is walk around in all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and proclaiming the Good News of the kingdom, and curing every diseases and disease among the people. 24and his name has itself spread in all Syria; and they have brought to him all sick, who are was plagued with various diseases and sufferings, demoniacs with evil spirits, and epileptics, and paralytics; and he has them cured; 25and there did him follow great crowds of people from Galilee and Decapolis and Jerusalem and Yehudah and from Beyond Yarden.
