Gifts From God: Devotions From Time of GraceUzorak
The Gift of God Himself: God’s steadiness
One of the most miserable features of life on earth is the puzzle of divorce. How is it possible that two people could become such bitter antagonists when once they were gaga in love? The sad reality is that not only do people change, but they can morph into personalities drastically different from the way they used to be.
It is natural to assume that God is fickle too. The ancient Greeks and Romans invented gods to worship that were just like them--quirky, vengeful, two-faced, and unreliable. A great gift to you from the true God is that he is steady as a rock. St. James says in chapter 1:17, “[God] does not change like shifting shadows.” What this means is that his love for you is not based on your performance, but it is based on an unshakeable decision he made in his divine mind from all eternity.
When you are looking for meaning in events all around you, when you are tempted from painful events in your life to conclude that God is absent or powerless or aloof or condemning, just remember that his steadfast purpose for you will never waver. He will never stop loving you. And he will never tire of showing you mercy and forgiveness.
