Tim Timmons - Cast My CaresUzorak
Cast My Cares
What are you worrying about right now? Take a moment to think through the worries and fears that are crowding your world today. Note: do not pass go until you’ve identified said worry.
“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:6-7
We are told to cast our cares on God because He cares for us! To “cast” is a command that means to fling, hurl, commit, or relinquish weight to another. This is an easy command to keep when your world is right-side up and all is well, but when everything is turned on it’s head, you need the whole verse to unlock the secrets of true contentment.
At the beginning of verse 6 Peter commands us to “Humble yourselves under God’s mighty hand…” Anxiety and humility seem to be contradicting realities. Neither can survive in the presence of the other. Anxiety is ultimately pride taking the controlling role of God and humility is the submission to a mighty God that is in control. How is your God complex today? In your worry is God, God, or are you still trying to be?
However, in that same invitation to humble ourselves under God’s mighty hand, we are encouraged “that HE will lift us up IN DUE TIME.” What if this is true even when we can’t see a way out? What if He’s able to handle these things that we so fear?
If God is truly God and we’re not, then listen to this amazing invitation. With great humility, “Cast your cares on Him because He cares for You.” This is not a once and done process, but a daily, if not moment-by-moment, relinquishing of our weight onto a powerful and good God.
We’re not to submit to our circumstances but we are invited to submit and cast our cares on the One who is at work in and through our circumstances. So cast on!
Let’s put the worry that you identified earlier through this test. In your circumstances:
- Is God still God or is He not? (Is He able?)
- Is God good or is He not? (Does He care about you?)
- What’s your response?
