DAN 9 OD 23

Have you ever been scared to try something new? Fear can be overwhelming, almost like it has a grip on you and it stops you in your tracks. But there’s good news! We read in Psalm 56 that there is a way for us to have peace in place of fear- we can put our trust in God! Trusting God doesn’t mean we won’t experience fear or anxiety, but it does mean there’s something we can do with our fear when it creeps in.

When fear comes over us, we have a choice. We can either let it take over and control us, or we can make a choice to trust God. When we put our full trust in Him, we’re telling fear to loosen its grip on us. Trusting God when we’re afraid takes a lot of faith. What we have to remember is that God is always available for us to bring Him our fear, and that He will carry us through.

Think about a time when you were afraid - how did you handle it? Two big ways you can begin handling fear are praying and reading the Scriptures. When you pray, you’re opening up and sharing your fears with God. Ask Him to replace your worry with peace, and to feel extra portions of the Holy Spirit. Reading the Bible can bring peace because we can read God’s promises to us. Seeing these on paper helps strengthen your faith, making fear seem small.

  • Bottom Line: Trusting God in the face of fear is an act of faith. When we place our trust in Him, fear loses its grip.
  • Response: When you feel afraid, pause and pray, find His promises in the Bible, and let those words remind you that God is always by your side.
