Strong Girls: Develop Unstoppable Character, Confidence, Courage

DAY 3 OF 4

Confidence - extreme belief, certainty, and trust

The simplest and most powerful definition of confidence is this: Confidence is extreme belief, certainty, and trust. Confidence empowers you to live your dreams and make a difference. Sometimes it means trusting in yourself and your own capabilities. But for the believer, true confidence is based on trusting in God. Confidence in Him, and then in yourself, empowers you to live your dreams and make a difference.

Building confidence requires a solid foundation of character and trust – trust in God and trust in the person He created you to be. Trust is built on consistent behavior, developing the certainty that you can count on someone or something. Hebrews 13:8 says that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. We can count on Him! And as we trust in Him, we become trustworthy as well.

Confidence comes from character, capability, and keeping your commitments to yourself and others. You cannot have confidence if you don’t keep your promises to yourself first and then to others. It also comes from having a track record of success. Confidence is built on overwhelming evidence. Doing what you say you will do builds your own confidence and others’ confidence in you.

Everyone has setbacks, but failure should never define you. All these things can be corrected. Each one gives you an opportunity to get right back in the game and do it right the next time. You are just one decision and action away from getting going in the right direction again.

You don’t find confidence in the “power of positive thinking,” but in the “power of God’s word.” While it’s very true that a positive mindset matters, unless you fill that mindset with the principles of God’s truth, it lacks lasting power.

Winning the mental game of confidence is important. When trying to overcome overwhelming pressure, fear, and anxiety, using positive affirmations like “I’m better under pressure” or “No pressure, no diamond” is super helpful. It's part of renewing your mind. But, real power comes by tying affirmations directly to passages of scripture. A statement like “Obstacles make me stronger” becomes transformational when connected to scripture like James 1; it gives you an expectation that every trial is a good thing, meant to benefit you and make you better.

Strong Girls have an unshakeable confidence because you have the certainty of God’s love, power, and goodness no matter what life brings. You can “laugh at your problems” and be excited about the future because God is with you wherever you go.

You can be confident in God even when you are at your weakest point.

When you build your confidence on the timeless truth of God’s Word – His unconditional love, limitless grace, and ultimate goodness – you live with certainty, power, and joy.
