Happily Ever After: And Everything Before

DAY 19 OF 21

Let’s be honest for a second: How many times have you talked to an adult and thought you knew better than them? How many times have you felt sad or jealous because someone you knew got something you didn’t? How many times have been sad when a friend came to you with tough news? These are situations we can find ourselves in often. And when they come, it’s easy to stick to how we feel and what we think is right. In other words, it’s easy to forget about the other person!

When we follow God, we’re called to do the opposite. When we are jealous, or sad, or prideful, we should take those feelings to God. We should ask God to help us be happy for our friends that we care about even if we’re envious of where they are, or to show up for someone having a hard time even if we don’t know what to say, or to respect the adults in our lives even when it’s hard. While we don’t want to push our other feelings down, we do want to make sure the right feelings—the ones that lead to positive actions—are leading us.

When you are frustrated with your parents, teachers, or friends, don’t immediately jump to thinking you know better. Instead, listen to what they have to say and reflect on what you can say or do to make the situation better!
