Strength for My Path: 5 Reflections From the TrailUzorak
Hiking Shoes in the Trunk
As someone who enjoys hiking, you may also be someone who is always on the lookout for a new hiking trail to explore. Be ready for that unplanned hike whenever you find yourself with some time on your hands or near a hiking trail unexpectedly.
Keep your shoes and some good socks in the trunk of your vehicle. That way, you’ll be prepared whenever the occasion for a hike arises, and you can take advantage of the opportunity for exploration. As an experienced hiker, you know that dress shoes or sandals just aren’t great for a spontaneous adventure on the trail, and you’d be likely to end up with blisters, wet feet, or ruined shoes. Without your hiking shoes, you’d either have to take your chances with that other footwear or miss out on the opportunity to explore a new trail.
In the same way, be ready to move for God when he asks you to. Memorize Scripture so that you can call it to mind when needed, for yourself or others. When your sisters and brothers in Christ seek counsel, have a problem, or need encouragement, you can support, caution, help, or admonish them with the verses that you’ve memorized. The scripture you’ve committed to memory takes on a deeper meaning when you repeat it over and over, and it helps us feel closer to God, drawing us into his presence.
Much like a hike can lead us to an unexpected yet breathtaking view or encounters with creation, God’s Word might also bring unexpected movement from the Lord. We should always be prepared to do God’s work whenever he calls us. We should anticipate the call. Your prepared Scripture verses will help you make godly decisions when needed. By spending time in God’s Word, you will learn and know God’s message more fully and always be ready to share it when the time is right. Keep God’s Word close to your heart as you keep hiking shoes in your trunk.
