Deeply Rooted

DAY 7 OF 7

Mature Roots

We don’t get to take any electives in the Lord’s classroom. He has the exact lesson plans we each need to accomplish the assignments given to each of us. We need to remember we’re the student, not the teacher. When building our root system, we have to be willing to change and adapt to His ways.

Only God knows when you’re ready for any given assignment. One of the hardest parts of thriving and growing deep roots is trusting God and waiting on His perfect timing. We can’t rush God’s hand. It is very tempting to jump ahead or try to speed up God’s timeline. We must understand that getting out of sync with God’s timeline is risky. Every assignment and every lesson God gives you is something crucial for your foundation. If we don’t let God develop us and build a firm foundation, then when He adds the weight of our calling together with the vision for our lives, the foundation won’t sustain it. Therefore, we must let God take all the time He needs to build a durable root system.

He desires our cooperation with His will, evidenced by the actions we take in response to His leadership. Trying to rush God or forcing Him to act sooner than we’re ready, is trusting in ourselves, rather than Him. It’s manipulation. It’s a symptom of the lack of mature roots when we don’t understand the place where God has called us to or failed to see His vision for our lives. Remember, God always calls us out of the potential that HE sees in us. He calls us to impossible assignments that only become possible through Him.

We must recognize the Lord’s hand in the timing of our steps and trust His heart of love for us. Things might be moving more slowly than we would like–sometimes it feels like a slow crawl. Crawling shows that we’re trusting God’s pace. He’s giving us what we need to prepare us for what He has in store for us.

Believers must come to terms with the Lord’s timing. I’ve been in these shoes many times, but peace comes to mind when I hear Him say, “Trust my heart for you.” Believing God has our best interest at heart, we can accept His plan and wait. Be deeply rooted in your faith; it’s a matter of trust.

Day 6

About this Plan

Deeply Rooted

Your spiritual root system can’t survive with shallow roots. We’re to grow deep into God and take seriously the responsibility to produce fruit in God’s kingdom. With all the multiplying distractions in the world, it’s easy to let our roots grow into shallow, self-serving disciplines. To be consistent in our spiritual growth and remain faithful, allow God to develop your roots to reach a deeper level.
