Habakkuk

DAY 12 OF 21

The five “woes” spoken against injustice in this chapter can be summarized as:

  1. Unjust economies
  2. Also unjust economies, but from another angle
  3. Slave labour
  4. Irresponsible leaders
  5. Idolatry

A key thing to learn from this is that God sees all the injustice and is not removed from it, but cares deeply. The last line of the chapter speaks to the Lord being in control and that the time for the judgment of the unjust will come: “But the Lord is in his holy temple; let all the earth keep silence before him!” (v. 20) This is a similar line to one of the last verses of our Psalm on the seventh day of each week of this plan: “Be still, and know that I am God! I am exalted among the nations, I am exalted in the earth” (Psalm 46:10).

About this Plan

Habakkuk

Habakkuk is all about having vision when all you see is injustice. It is a timely book for the Church today to engage with. How do you carry a vision when the world seems to be going in the opposite direction? Habakkuk gives us some great insights into this question. This plan was crafted as a My Local Church study plan. We hope you will join us on this journey.
