The Name

At the name of Jesus …

… darkness flees. … death is defeated. … sins are forgiven. … beauty is unleashed. … brokenness is made whole. … man is made holy.

Jesus. How can one name wield such power, such depth of meaning?

We do not deserve to know such a name, let alone to speak it … and yet He has given it to us. He has granted us the privilege of knowing him. And He has decided to trust us to use his name with wisdom and to come to know his name’s power.

My heart is this: May I be a faithful carrier of your name. Forgive me for misunderstanding the power and importance of your name. Help me to understand that every time I speak your name that it is a holy and sacred honor. Help me to understand the power of your name.

Prayer: Father, thank you that through the power of your name we were created to conquer darkness, to bring life to what is dead, to see sins forgiven, to spread beauty, to bring healing, to free those in captivity (physical, mental, and spiritual), to end poverty, to mend the broken … and to be made holy.
