Worship

DAY 1 OF 7

Holy and pleasing to God

Abram (Abraham) followed God from his home to the land that God had promised. They travelled to Canaan and the Lord appeared to Abram and told him that this land would be his. In response Abram built and altar to God. The altar recognises the relationship between God and Abram, a marker, a place for worship.

There were a lot of altars built in the Old Testament, places where sacrifices were offered and God was worshipped, recognising what had happened there and what He had done for His people.

Paul writes in Romans 12:1–2 that we are to be a living sacrifice; holy and pleasing to God.

Worship is of our whole self, recognising that He is God. Our relationship with God transforms the way we live, the words we say, our interaction with those around us, our relationships and our time and money. It’s more than a song in a service. Our worship to God cannot be the leftovers or our second best. We are encouraged to give ourselves fully to Him. That is worship.
