Parenting the Child That Challenges You (And the Other One)Uzorak
Imperfectly Perfect
Parenting is one of the greatest, most challenging endeavors you will ever experience. We all remember the first time we held that little creature weighing way less than ten pounds—all the emotions of joy, expectations, and, wow, the feeling of responsibility.
Parenting a child is a huge lifelong process. As you, your spouse, and the Holy Spirit walk this journey, you will learn more about the Father God than probably any other process. You will learn unconditional love, being loved, being rejected, being throughout the process challenged by your child and challenged about what you believe about God, parenting, your spouse’s parenting, and the personality of each unique child you get the privilege of parenting.
I want to start these seven days with a couple of words of encouragement you might need to hear.
Firstly, God trusts you to be the best imperfect parent. You cannot and will not be perfect. We all know this too well when the Scripture says, “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God” Romans 3:23.
He is not expecting perfection in parenting, so you shouldn’t either. Expect to be honest with yourself, your spouse, and God. He is expecting you to lean on Him in the process. Like Proverbs 3:5 says, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding.”
Questions:
1. How are you doing with accepting that you are not a perfect parent?
2. How are you doing with being honest?
3. How are you practically leaning on the Lord in your parenting?
