Soul Healing Rest

DAY 5 OF 5

Jesus Rested

In the busyness it’s easy to make our accomplishments become addictions or idols. We become producers, educators, innovators, and progressors of technology. Humanly speaking, we become machines trying to outsmart the next big idea. We reinvent the same wheel to save time, money, and energy. We redo ideas to make them faster, bigger, more improved, and efficient. We plunge deep into a multi-tasking world juggling more and “doings” for the sake of Christ. We become “human doings” rather than “human beings.” We suffocate ourselves and can’t rest.

Resting in God is a position, a repose of the heart set deep in God. To be inspiring to others, you first have to be inspired. It’s in His loving lap of rest that I hear His voice and receive His purposeful assignments. It’s a way to reset your soul to His. Jesus modeled rest perfectly and was always on mission to connect with others.

The Gospels show instances where Jesus withdrew to solitary places to pray (Mark 1:35, Luke 5:16). Jesus often sought solitude to commune with God, suggesting a pattern of rest that involved spiritual renewal and connection. Additionally, He encouraged His disciples to come away to a quiet place and rest for a while (Mark 6:31). These actions emphasize the importance of rest, not just physically but also spiritually, aligning with the idea of finding rest in God's presence.

Jesus frequently sought solitude to pray, indicating the importance of quiet time for reflection, communion with God, and spiritual renewal. In moments of solitude, He withdrew from the demands of ministry and reconnected with his Father in prayer. His discipline wasn’t merely physical but deeply spiritual. His moments of stillness were opportunities to deepen His relationship with God, aligning Himself with God's will and finding strength for His mission.

Jesus taught His disciples about the significance of rest, both physical and spiritual. He invited them to come away to a quiet place and rest, recognizing the need for rejuvenation amidst the busyness of ministry. Jesus modeled dedication to His calling and focused on the needs of others. He didn’t deny Himself self-care and spiritual nourishment. Jesus' rest was grounded in His trust in God's provision and timing. He surrendered His will to the Father, finding peace, perfect order, provision, and true rest. It’s in the relationship with God that we find the interconnectedness and renewal of our souls.

I pray this plan encouraged you to seek God for your soul healing rest. Thank you for reading this Bible plan. More encouragement for faith stories is found here.
