Battling Anxiety – God’s Path to Peace

DAY 5 OF 5

Day 5: Peace for Your Heart

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14:27

God’s peace is yours! It’s freely given and everlasting, but sometimes you must fight to maintain what is rightfully yours as a believer in Christ.

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” John 10:10 NIV

The enemy is working hard to steal what God has promised you. The good news is that Jesus has come to bring you abundant life and lasting peace.

When those old familiar feelings of anxiety threaten you, push back. Stand firm. You don’t have to tolerate the enemy. Don’t let him rob you of God’s peace.

The more you win this moment, the easier it will become to maintain peace even in the middle of a storm. Literally, neural pathways can change as you change and learn how to deflect the attacks of the enemy.

“The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.” Romans 8:6 NIV

You can win the battle over anxiety. You can walk in peace. You can get your life back.

One final important note as we close out this devotional. If you’ve been dealing with panic attacks, it can be a natural tendency to avoid people. However, we’re most vulnerable when we are alone.

You and I – we need each other. God designed us to live in community with other believers, to share our joys as well as our struggles.

If you feel alone, I encourage you to seek out people of faith. Get in a Bible study, find a small group. You’ll be amazed how much easier it is to fight life’s battles when we link arms with one another.

As we close out this devotional, here is my prayer for you:

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13 NIV

Here’s a prayer you can pray:

Lord, I receive the life and peace you have promised me! Thank you for calming my heart. Thank you for helping me overcome anxiety and start living my life again. I trust you to guard my heart and mind with your constant peace. In Jesus’ name, amen.
