Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year One

DAY 361 OF 365

This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: "Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit" (Zechariah 4:6).

What should be the prime mover to accomplish projects for the Lord?

The work on the Temple is not completed, so God calls Zechariah to encourage the Israelites to finish their responsibility. Joshua the high priest, who represents the nation, has been consecrated to lead the priests and minister to the people (Zechariah 3). An angel then explains a vision received by Zechariah. There is a supernatural supply of oil to the lampstand, which represents the ministry of the Holy Spirit (Zechariah 4:2). The "two olive trees" refer to Joshua the high priest and Zerubbabel the governor. God's Spirit will energize them to accomplish His work. What is impossible for men is possible with God. That is why the Lord says about the mountainous task, "Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain!" (Zechariah 4:7).

Employment Point: Depend upon the Holy Spirit to accomplish God's work.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year One

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions helps readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word.
