Day 1: The Groundwork of Conviction
Scripture:
Romans 8:31
"If God is for us, who can be against us?"
As we embark on this three-day journey together, I invite you to ponder on a deeply pressing matter – the place of conviction in our contemporary world. We're navigating a season where everything seems malleable, changing rapidly with the winds of cultural, political, and even religious tides.
Recall America in the throes of the COVID-19 pandemic. A memory still fresh for many of us. Church doors were mandated to shut, not necessarily out of disdain for the faith, but in response to a global health emergency. Yet, this directive stirred something profound in the souls of believers. It resurfaced haunting memories of eras past, reminiscent of challenges Billy Graham faced when Communism was on the rise. Just as he stood firmly in the truth despite external pressures, we found ourselves at a similar crossroad.
In my book and in the documentary coming out later this month, "Letter to the American Church," I endeavored to capture the essence of this tension. It was more than just the external closure of buildings. For many believers, the more significant struggle was the internal wrestling with faith, convictions, and the seeming silence of some church leaders.
When we lean into Romans 8:31, it isn’t merely about reciting scripture; it’s about internalizing a profound truth. As the world shakes and the grounds seem unsteady, where will your convictions find their anchor? This verse beckons you to hold steadfast, reminding you that if the God of all creation stands with you, no worldly power can overshadow His glory.
Reflection:
In the midst of societal pressures and rapid change, where have you felt your convictions tested? How might internalizing Romans 8:31 fortify your resolve?
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, as I step into this new day, be the steady hand guiding me through shifting sands. When my convictions waver under the weight of the world, remind me of Your unchanging truth and steadfast love. In moments of doubt, let Romans 8:31 echo in my heart, grounding me in the knowledge that You stand with me. Amen.
