The First Letter of JohnUzorak
Keep Yourself from Idols
Before we lived in Christ, we were dead in our sins. In Christ we were made alive to God. We were given new life and raised up with God. We have been forgiven for all our wrongdoings. The state of death has been reversed; we have been made new!
The final statement of this beautiful book is the command to keep ourselves from idols. When we speak of idols, we often limit them to the little statues of pagan gods that were worshipped in ancient times. However, idolatry is alive and kicking in the modern church. John Bevere has this to say about it: “A believer is drawn into idolatry when he allows his heart to be stirred with discontentment and looks for satisfaction outside of obedience to God. This satisfaction could be a person, possession, or activity.”
Devotional Question:
What are the idols in my life? How will I turn from them?

1 John is one of the most quoted books of the Bible, and for a good reason: John understood God’s love in a special way. As we explore the pages of this book, let that be our main goal: to understand the love of God better and better, and to grow closer to Him.
