Faith & Love: A One Year Bible Reading Plan - Part 8Uzorak
Have you ever felt that you are pouring from an empty cup? That you just give, but there is nothing left?
In the beginning of Luke, we see Jesus do the unthinkable in His time: we see Him heal the sick on the Sabbath, and even His disciples were picking grain. In Jewish tradition, this was not allowed as the Sabbath was intended to honour God by not doing work. Yet Jesus did not just do work; He did miracles.
Right after this, we see Jesus taking a day on His own and isolating Himself from all the people to do one thing – to focus on God, pray to God, and be in fellowship with God. After Jesus returns from the mountain, we see a man driven to do His Father’s will. He chooses His disciples (The Twelve) and starts healing people. Jesus here rests so that He can give from a full cup and not an empty one.
Jesus invites us to live according to the same principle: to rest from work, not because of it.
Rest being (not Netflix) a braai (the South African equivalent of barbecue) with friends or even family time. Rest being devoted time with God, allowing Him to fill your cup so that you can be the person He has called you to be.
So maybe do one or both of these:
1. Read through chapter 6 and speak to God about it. Tell Him what is on your heart and mind.
2. Plan a day in the next 3 months when you will take off and spend the day focused on God. Prioritize this day in your calendar.
