WORTHY ONEUzorak
Day 1 - Who Was
God is eternal. The Bible’s opening proclamation tells us that before the beginning, there was God. Of course, it doesn’t say it that way; it says, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” It is not God’s beginning but the beginning of all the world as we would know it. God has always been there. Revealed in this first verse of scripture is a glimpse into the character and nature of this God. He is a creative God. He is a good God. He is a God of order. He is a God of beauty. He is a God with a plan from beginning to earthly end. He is the first and greatest and only perfect Artist. From the unraveling of creation, we watch in awe as He is present with His creation - walking with Adam and Eve in the garden, calling Abram from Haran, speaking to Moses in a burning bush, and walking his people through an ocean. It is not that God was there at times in history, but rather that He was writing the story as the protagonist, so much so that we see, without Him, there is no possibility of history. He was there. The work of his hands, then, created the beauty and possibilities we live in today. We contemplate our lives, how a birth, life, death, and resurrection over 2000 years ago change and transform us. With incredible confidence, we read the words of prophets who lived hundreds of years before Christ and yet foretold of His coming with stunning detail and profound accuracy - hundreds of Messianic prophesies that we can look back at and see that every one of them was fulfilled. From a virgin birth in an insignificant village called Bethlehem, to the stable that served as a crib to a King, to the exact cost of His betrayal, the exact number of men who would die beside Him, the exact controversy surrounding the disappearance of His body, to the exact naming of the accusing group. These ancient prophets not only foretell the events but perfectly harmonize with the New Testament writers as they unfold the implications of the events. The harmony is only possible because, like a puzzle, God flawlessly joined each piece, revealing Himself to humanity. There is no place in the past that God was not. He was.
