Fight for It: A 21-Day Devotional

DAY 18 OF 21

Today’s Devotional:

Did you grow up with a grandmother or a mother who would often remind you about your posture? I know I did! I remember my grandmother constantly reminding me to stand up tall, sit up straight, and roll my shoulders back. It used to be so annoying, and early on in my life, I did not understand why it mattered so much. But as I grew up, I began to realize just how important our posture is for both you and me.

The definition of posture is a particular way of dealing with or considering something; an approach or attitude. You see, often, your posture changes depending on the situation you find yourself in at any given time. Your posture is different at a fancy restaurant than it is when you are at a stadium cheering on your favorite sports team or if you are at home watching television. Your posture is often a reflection of what is going on around you, the external circumstances. However, when it comes to our spiritual life, we need to let our posture be dictated from the inside out.

In Scripture, the Lord never promises that we will not find ourselves at times in difficult circumstances or seasons of life. However, He does promise that He is faithful, He is just, He is trustworthy, He is good, He is in control, and He is our hope.

When it comes to seeking God’s guidance, provision, healing, or wisdom through prayer through those circumstances and seasons, often there will be a period of waiting that will occur. The waiting may last hours, days, or even years.

In the waiting, it is up to us to choose the posture we will have while we wait. Will we let the external circumstances dictate our posture, which will lead us to despair, disappointment, or discouragement? Or will we choose our posture to be one of hope, encouragement, and expectation knowing the God that we serve?

In today's verses, we are told to both trust and wait. When we see “wait” in these verses, it is not passive, rather it is active. Waiting on the Lord means to hope, anticipate, and trust. When we choose to have a posture of hope, anticipation, and trust in God no matter the circumstance or ask, He promises He will renew our strength, He will give us peace, and He will hear our prayers.

Let’s intentionally choose our posture today to align our spirits with God’s word, His spirit, and His character.

Today’s devotional was written by Pastor Kate Czechowicz

Questions:

  • What is your posture while you wait?
  • And what may you need to do to realign your posture to be one of hope, encouragement, and expectation while you wait?

A Prayer to ‘Look Out’: Lord, thank you so much for who you are. You are such a good God—faithful, trustworthy, and so gracious to me. Holy Spirit, would you grant me your patience while I wait on you? Please fill me with hope and expectation as I wait and keep me aligned with your Spirit and your truth today. While I look out to all the needs around me and pray fervently, give me hopeful anticipation in your power and presence. In Jesus’ mighty name, amen.
