Priscilla
If you look for Priscilla in scripture, you will quickly notice that she is never mentioned without her husband, Aquila. In today's culture, we would label Priscilla and Aquila as a “power couple” within the early church. In their day-to-day life, they both worked as tent makers, while also working to establish the church in Corinth, Ephesus, and Rome. While in Corinth, the Lord brought them a faithful servant to work alongside them, the apostle Paul. Together they made tents and sought to share the Gospel with everyone they encountered in their community.
From observation, we know relatively few women are mentioned in Scripture by name. So, when we see Priscilla's name repeatedly shared, we know she played an essential role in helping to build and establish the church alongside her husband. They encouraged, taught, and served in each city they resided. They never gave up, even when faced with adversity. When Priscilla and Aquila are first mentioned in Acts 18:2 we’re told that all the Jews had been commanded to leave Rome. Priscilla and Aquila did not waste their displacement. They didn't feel sorry for themselves, or if they did, they didn’t let it impede the work God called them to in establishing the Church. In Priscilla, we find a beautiful testimony of faithful service; wherever God sent her and however He tasked her.
1. Am I faithfully fulfilling the tasks the Lord has given me?
Prayer: Lord, help me focus on the ministry you have given me today.
