Year of the Bible: Part Five of Twelve Uzorak
A Covenant-Making God
David desired to make a permanent house for God but was told that his son would accomplish this desire instead. Then, in an unexpected twist, God blessed David and expressed His enduring desire for a covenant relationship with humankind.
Let us stand in awe of God’s plans and loyalty toward humanity. He could have quickly abandoned us, but instead, He promised to establish the house of David forever, blessing the whole world through it. This promise to David’s house is a repeat of the covenant made with Abraham, a commitment to bless the world through the promised “seed.”
David would have been well aware of the promises made to Abraham, and this awareness caused him to declare, “Who am I, and what is my house that you have brought me this far?” From this point in time onward, the descendants of David kept a careful record of their families, always watching and waiting for the promised “Son of David” who would rule forever.
Remember, God is always working toward fulfilling His promises in you and through you. Nothing can stand against the plans of the Lord! Not failure, great enemies, betrayal, or any other enemy strategy. The covenant has been made and sealed by the Blood of Jesus, and our victory is sure.
Question: Do you realize that you are a part of a multi-millennia-long story in which God is blessing the nations?
Prayer: Pray David’s prayer of Gratitude (2 Samuel 7:18-29) and pray it out loud over your life and your family.
